YOUTH FOR YOUTH CONCERT
The Malta Youth Orchestra will be joining forces with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to present Youth for Youth on the 1st and 2nd July. This concert will be in collaboration with the Lisa Maria Foundation.
Under the baton of international guest conductor David Watkin, the combined musicians of the Malta Youth Orchestra and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a diverse programme of classical music, including selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite, Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite, Mars from Holst’s The Planets, and scores from Star Wars.
With the aim of training talented young orchestral musicians and providing them with the opportunity to develop their ambition and aspirations, the Malta Youth Orchestra made its first public appearance in 2004. Since its inception, it has enjoyed a busy schedule and has made notable appearances during Notte Bianca and at the Żigużajg Festival.
This concert aims to raise awareness of the work that the Lisa Maria Foundation does in safeguarding children and young people.
Maria Blanco, who is responsible for directing the training programme of the Malta Youth Orchestra, said that, “together with David Watkin, we’ve chosen some very special repertoire for this concert, which will give the young musicians an opportunity to challenge themselves and develop their skills, whilst also providing a very interesting and enjoyable programme for the public.”
Youth for Youth will be held at Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta on the 1st and 2nd July at 7.30pm. Entrance is free. Tickets can be reserved here.
