‘The Lockerbie Bomber’ presented by DnA
“The most important play you will see this year” – The Edinburgh Guide.
December 21st, 1988, 7.03pm. Pan Am flight 103, bound for New York, explodes over the Scottish town of Lockerbie. There are no survivors. Passengers, flight crew, cabin crew- all dead. 270 people from 21 countries die in the worst terrorist attack in British history.
‘The Lockerbie Bomber’ by Kenneth N Ross is a hard-hitting play which explores the possibility that Abdelbaset al Megrahi, the Libyan man eventually tried and convicted for the bombing, could have been a scapegoat, and that governments may have systematically covered up the truth behind the bombing for years.
This piece is bound to have a local resonance due to the bombing’s connection with Malta. Al Megrahi was mainly convicted after clothing in a suitcase which allegedly carried the bomb was traced to a Sliema clothes shop.
Described by the playwright as “faction” (a mix of fact and fiction, plus the odd conspiracy theory and some speculation) ‘The Lockerbie Bomber’ makes its international debut in Malta with a stellar cast including Mikhail Basmadjian, Julia Calvert, Manuel Cauchi, Alan Montanaro, Denise Mulholland and Alan Paris. Produced by DnA Theatre Productions, the play is directed by Herman Grech.
Performances will take place at St Cavalier on November 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 at 8pm. Tickets €15
