Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
The 2014 Olympic Games in Russia will be held between 7 – 23 February. The Games will officially start after the Opening Ceremony on Friday 7th February at 20:14 which includes the Athletes’ Parade, where representatives from all participating countries take part, the Olympic Flame is lit and athletes and officials take their oaths.
The Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is one of the most memorable parts of the games and it creates a lasting impression on participants and spectators alike.
The Closing Cermony in Sochi on Sunday 23rd February is not to be missed either. Besides the lowering of the Olympic Flag and other official elements of significance, a brilliant show will be put on with artists performing just as in the Opening Ceremony. Also, an artistic performance will be given by the next host city of the Winter Olympics, Pyeongchang in Korea after the Flag Handover Ceremony.
An interesting page in the Sochi Olympic Games website, where schedules and results can be viewed, is the Torch Relay Diary which reads like a who’s-who of the sports world and a travel brochure for far-flung Russian cities. Dig this – “The torchbearers passed the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Russian Drama Theater, the Eternal Flame square and the National Museum and the memorial of the famous designer, the Kalashnikov Museum Complex, as well as a three-meter monument of the AK-47 machine gun.” The main Sochi day-by-day 2014 Torch Relay events and unforgettable moments are reported here torchrelay.sochi2014.com | www.sochi2014.com
