Le Salon – Absence
French for “the living room”, a place of gathering and meeting of minds – an event that emerged out of the 17th and 18th century as a controversial gathering of artists, intellectuals and politicians. These usually met in a private residence (generally belonging to an influential host) to share and discuss art, literature, current events and most probably, themselves. The American novelist and playwright Gertrude Stein was known for her salon at 27 rue de Fleurus in Paris, where Picasso, Matisse and other creative people would meet.
There have been a number of Le Salon events held in Malta over the past few years and, since we could not wait for the larger event to happen, a number of smaller gatherings have been organised in between. We like to call these ‘intimates’ – and they are held in smaller groups and in a less structured manner.
You are invited to the next Le Salon intimates – a place where you can share your writing, art of any kind, your thoughts, your favourite passages from books, the song in your heart and anything that captures your imagination. Speak, listen and meet like-minded people.
