King Lear, Malta Arts Festival 2014
One of the deepest artistic explorations of the human condition, King Lear is a show of tempestuous poetry shot through with touches of humour.
King Lear will be played by Joseph Marcell, best known for his role as Geoffrey in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Performed by the world-renowned, Shakespeare Globe, on an Elizabethan-style stage, the small troupe of travelling players breathe new life into Shakespeare’s ultimate tragedy.
Old King Lear is weary of his royal duties and proposes to break up his kingdom and divide it among his three daughters. However, his rash generosity is cruelly repaid with Lear discovering the false values by which he has lived, and in turn the suffering that is common to all humanity.
The performances will take place on July 16 and 17 at the Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Republic Street, Valletta as part of the Malta Arts Festival 2014.
