A Choral Christmas Concert by Malta’s only Male Choir!
Malta’s only all male choir Cappella Sanctae Catharinae is back with Gaudete, its annual Christmas concert. The concert features a wide variety of Christmas choral music, all sung in the glorious setting of two beautiful Baroque churches. The music includes old carols from Italy, France, Malta, Hungary, and Germany. The concert also includes some Latin American Baroque Christmas music.
The first concert will be on Saturday 17th December at 19:30, in the majestic setting of St Helen’s Collegiate Parish Church in Birkirkara. One of the Maltese carols on the programme has been retrieved from Ġużeppi Żammit, who hails from Birkirkara, and who used to sing it as a child in the church and Museum choirs. The concert will help to collect funds for the restoration of the 18th century pulpit held within the church.
The concert will be repeated the following morning on Sunday 18th December at 11:00 in the church of Our Lady of Victories in Valletta. This small Baroque gem is currently being restored by Din l-Art Ħelwa, and proceeds from this concert will go towards this worthy cause. This concert also offers shoppers in Valletta a welcome respite from Christmas shopping!
Founded in 2009, Cappella Sanctae Catharinae specialises in Renaissance and early Baroque polyphony, giving new life to rarely heard musical gems. The choir is committed to delivering high quality performances, reaching out to different communities, and supporting the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage.
