GABI SULTANA AT TEATRU MANOEL
Teatru Manoel presents a contemporary piano recital by Gabi Sultana on the 12th October at 8pm.
Described as “a demon of energy, yet one of impeccable articulation” by the Sunday Times of Malta, Gabi Sultana is a highly acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, especially within the contemporary music scene. She was the award recipient of the “Contemporary Music Prize” and “Outstanding Pianist” at the IBLA Grand Prize International Music Competition in Sicily in 2013, and winner of all available piano competitions before 2001 in Malta.
Ms Sultana has performed extensively in Europe, the USA and Australia. As part of her prize at IBLA, she was invited to tour the States of Virginia, Arkansas and New York, culminating in her debut in Carnegie Hall in May 2014.
In May 2015, she made her Australian debut at the Canberra International Music Festival, which also gave her the opportunity to collaborate with Sydney-based Ensemble Offspring, who once again invited her to join them in January 2016 to perform at the Peninsula Summer Music Festival in Victoria, where she also gave a solo recital.
In 2015, Gabi was invited to perform for Ars Musica as part of the Les Mardis Contemporains series. Also in 2015, Sultana performed for the King and Queen of Belgium, together with Lisa De Boos on double-bass.
The recital on the 12th October is the first of the Wednesdays at the Manoel series, and includes works by Frank Nuyts, Andy Akiho and Steve Reich arr. Vincent Corver.
There will be a pre-recital talk at 7.30pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
