A Collective Contemporary Ceramic Exhibition
A contemporary ceramic sculpture exhibition by 4 artists, two of whom Tijana Raskovic and Eva Kover are foreigners residing in Malta. The Maltese artists are Edward Maggi who works in the fashion industry and Gozitan Joan Haber, ceramics teacher and wife of prominent artist Paul Haber.
After the very successful First Gozo Ceramics Festival held in Xlendi last July, the four participating artists decided to make a joint exhibition to show their latest works in ceramics, mostly in terracotta, in some instances glazed while in others it was left unglazed in a matt finish. Ceramic techniques include modelling by Tijana and Eva, pinching by Edward while Joan’s pieces are all thrown on a potter’s wheel.
While Edward’s and Tijana’s work are vibrant with glazed bright colours, Eva’s monochrome bronze finishes and Joan’s slip coloured, antiqued sculptures give a more neutral appearance to the sculptures.
The four artists share a workshop at Clay Club at Alka to execute their artistic pieces, all using terracotta clays to express their inspirations with the human body as their common subject, with different interpretations.
While Edward and Joan are inspired by fashion, Tijana’s models are intricately painted with the expertise of a seasoned painter and Eva obsession with lines and forms give her sculptures a unique quality which is emphasised through the lack of colour.
