MELLIEĦA NIGHTS 2018 WILL CELEBRATE CULTURE, HISTORY, MUSIC AND TRADITION

From ABBA, the Beatles and Tina Turner to legendary Maltese songs – Mellieha Nights are back with a blast.

The three-day event will start with a show by Agia Napa Traditional Dancers and musical performances by local singers. Next, Spiteri Lucas Band will perform songs from ABBA, the Beatles and Tina Turner repertoires featuring prominent Maltese singers Neville Refalo, Debbie Scerri, Olivia Lewis and Richard Edward and accompanied by Dancel Dance Studio. ‘Waves Trip’ by DJ Max will follow.

On Saturday, the Mellieħa Parish Square will fill with a Medieval re-enactment session by Project Lazzarus, followed by a mini live concert by Ro Ho – Trio – Hocheifel from Adenau, Germany, and musical performances by local singers. The highlight will be a spectacular live concert by Paul Abela Band performing an extensive selection of the well known and legendary Maltese songs featuring established local singers Georgina, Roger Tirazona, Louisana Bartolo and Renato, and accompanied by Paul Curmi Dancers. A Stand-Up Comedy by Joe (id-Dulli) and Veronica Farrugia will follow. The Mellieħa Fireworks Association will host a barbecue dinner for attendees.

Along Triq Gorg Borg Olivier, ‘The Mellieħa Summer Carnival Parade’ will display the talent of 13 dance companies, Big Friends Guggen Musik Band and Sambrazilian Band. Live performance by Duo Breezes will follow.

At Misraħ iż-Żjara tal-Papa Ġwanni Pawlu II, there will be a kids’ entertainment and animation area, complete with puppets shows, a sing-along challenge, magical slots by Future Voices Children’s Choir, Artemocion Dance Studio, Phyllisienne Brincat Children’s Choir and Listen to Our Voices Children’s Choir. The Sanctuary Courtyard will host an artistic and local handicrafts exhibition on Saturday and Sunday.


At the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mellieħa, the event will start with a concert by ‘Vuċijiet Vittorjani’ from Societa’ Filarmonica La Vittoria, to be followed by the ‘Imperial Choir’ from Għaqda Mużikali Imperial. As on Saturday, those who are interested in family entertainment will be drawn to Misraħ iż-Żjara tal-Papa Ġwanni Pawlu II for the kids’ entertainment and animation area. They will also hear young local singers, the Mellieħa Scout Group and Mandy Dance Academy.

On Sunday, Fratres in Armis Re-enactment Group will perform Medieval reenactments, followed by local singers and Live Jazz Music Concert by Groove. A prominent Maltese violinist George Curmi (il-Puse) and his Band with the participation of Eurovision Song Contest 2018 Maltese representative Christabelle Borg will be the highlight of the day.

Finally, the Grand Finalle at 11.00pm will be an explosion (literally) with Pyro-Musical Display with the collaboration of Mellieħa Fireworks Association.

The festivities will take place from Friday 27th July to Sunday 29th July from 7.30pm. On Saturday, a park and ride service from ex-Belleview Area will be provided. Further details are on Mellieħa Local Council’s website and Facebook page.
