What is in common between an innovative staging of Antigone, comedian Bad Dad’s US tour and a disability NGO’s training project? They all raised funds on – Malta’s only rewards-based crowdfunding platform. It rounded off 2017 on a high-note by celebrating its most successful year to-date. The platform, which helps people to secure funding for projects they want to get off the ground, enjoyed a 90 per cent success rate across its online campaigns.

In total, the campaigns raised €85,000. Zaar achieved the funding by attracting over 60,000 website visitors and over 1,400 project backers. “24 projects joined us during the year and 90 per cent of them completed their campaigns having achieved the funds they hoped for – and more,” says manager Matthew Caruana. “. It is exciting to know that these projects will now be able to move onto their next stage of development as a result of crowdfunding on Zaar.”

Beyond its successful campaigns, Zaar also enjoyed hitting other important milestones in 2017. Among them, the platform launched Zaar Clinics, which were introduced to share crowdfunding information and ideas to potential campaigners, and to provide a space where would-be entrepreneurs could meet like-minded individuals.

On top of that, Zaar also launched its official guidebook, designed to help potential campaigners kick-start a successful campaign. This book takes the form of a 20-page full colour guide that covers everything a project owner should consider and do before, during and after their campaign. “We have had an excellent response from it, including its helpful To Do List, and Crowdfunding Toolkit and Canvas,” Mr Caruana continues.

There are already a number of projects planned for 2018, many of which will be launched in the coming weeks.
