Do you still remember when the 2017 season of Open Mics opened in January? The next event on Thursday, 14th December, is already the 20th. Inizjamed team says to that: “We are now past our adolescence, however we still want to dream, we still want to be free. As a matter of fact, we are going to a place which is a dream that became reality.”

Jacob’s Brew, which hosts the events, is known for its pay-it-forward activities. Paying customers receive a token with their bill, offering free flowing coffee to pass on to a family going through a hardship. According to Inizjamed, this type of sharing is, like poetry, the best example that when your heart is broken in two, rather than having no more heart beats, you end up with two simultaneous beats.

The special guest of the 14th of December event will be the poet Norbert Bugeja, who has published four collections of poetry, the most recent one being ‘Nartiċi’. The previous three are ‘South of the Kasbah’, ‘Bliet’ and ‘Stay Fairy Tale Stay’.

He read his verses in various international literary festivals, and also was part of the Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival, both as a poet and as an interviewer. In the last two editions he interviewed the two internationally acclaimed writers – Elias Khoury and Mourid Barghouti.

Between Norbert Bugeja’s performances, in the spirit of the Open Mic, the public will be invited to read poems, stories, perform stand-ups, sing an original song, or anything else to express themselves in any dialect or language. This will be Open Mic’s last edition for the year.
