After two decades, APS Teatru Unplugged is Malta’s longest standing annual event. This year’s anniversary edition is promising to be stronger than ever, with a one-off venue change and an outstanding list of artists: Narrowlane, Gillian Zammit and Rosetta Debattista and Pete & Papps performing with Renzo Spiteri and Gianni.
The audience will see familiar and new faces performing to help them wrap up the year, enjoy an outstanding musical event and get into the Christmas mood. The successful formula for Teatru Unplugged has remained the same since the very first show in 1998 – six local artists or acts, of different genres, brought together in one show. The bands and artists taking part each year reflects the diversity of the Maltese music scene and not only includes firm favourites, but also something new, reflecting the spirit of Teatru Unplugged – free spirited, emotionally and artistically rich. The mix of old and new applies to this year’s hosts: Teatru Unplugged veteran Josef Bonello is joined by XFM’s presenter Trudy Kerr.

Whilst the Manoel Theatre is the home of Teatru Unplugged, 2017 sees the show move to University Theatre just this once. This is because the Manoel Theatre is undergoing internal works. The team behind Teatru Unplugged say that a great deal of creativity and hard work is going into transforming the venue for this anniversary edition, with the added advantage of additional parking.
This year Teatru Unplugged is supported by XFM 100.2, which is committed to promoting the local music scene and local talent emerging from a wide range of genres of music. 2017 has seen XFM get involved in every kind of music event – supporting local bands and artists, as well as international artists playing here in Malta. Teatru Unplugged was a natural choice for XFM in their efforts to give great music a home.
APS Teatru Unplugged is being held on the 14th, 15th and 16th of December at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, University of Malta. Tickets are available online at www.ticketline.com. The event is supported by APS Bank, XFM 100.2, Camilleri Paris Mode, Blumreang, Baileys and Olimpus. See more information on the event’s Facebook page.
