Hundreds of Scouts and Guides will be marching through the streets of Valletta on Sunday 23rd April 2017. This year, the thanksgiving mass before the rally will be held at the Catholic Institute in Floriana. The Central District Scouts and Girl Guides will be leading the march-past following the programme:
08:30 Arrival of the Central District Groups/Units attending mass.
08:45 Central District Groups/Units are to be seated inside the Catholic Institute Floriana.
Invited MPs, VIPs, National Scout Council, Girl Guides Council and National Board, The Trefoil Guild and the Scout Fellowship will be ushered to their reserved seats.
09:00 Celebration of mass by His Excellency Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona, together with the chaplains of both associations.
10:00 Arrival of all other Scout Groups/Guide Units at the Floriana Granaries.
10:15 Triq Sarrija will be closed off for all traffic due to St Publius feast.
10:30 Scouts/Guides to form up the rally.
10:50 Marching off as follows: Central, Gozo, North and South Districts.
As in previous years, the groups will march down Republic Street and pass the palace through St George’s Square. This year, the rally will not turn towards Archbishop Street due to another event on Merchants Street. It will keep going straight towards the lower part of Republic Street. Dispersal of groups managed by volunteers will take place at St Elmo. As patron of both national associations, Her Excellency, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca will be
taking the salute of passing groups in front of the Presidential Palace in St George’s Square. All groups will be marching in full uniform behind the colours of the Maltese, Scouting and Guiding flags.
The Scout and Guide associations would like to take the opportunity to thank all stakeholders involved in assisting in the organisation of this annual event. A special word of thanks goes to the Malta Police Force, whose officers go beyond the call of duty to the associations’ needs and provide logistical support free of charge, the St John Ambulance brigade for standby first aid assistance, the Floriana and Valletta local councils for the relevant permits and Transport Malta for rerouting of vehicular traffic.
