A new cultural initiative has recently been added to the Arts Council Malta’s busy calendar.
As of this year, the council will be organising a series of rock concerts spread over a number of months featuring foreign and local artists. Falling under the auspices of the Festivals directorate within the council, this annual series of concerts is entitled Rock’n Malta, which is under the artistic direction of Lou Bondi’.
The confirmed line up for this year is as follows:
Krokus – 20th May – Born to Be Wild, Easy Rocker
The Wailers – 25th August – Jammin’, No Woman No Cry, One Love
Procul Harum – 5th October – Whiter Shade of Pale, Conquistador
Negotiations are underway to secure at least another two bands for this year. These world-class concerts will be supported by a line up of local bands, each in their respective genres – No Snow/No Alps, Fire, 12th Ode, The Rifffs, Tash Sultana, Red Electrick and Different Light.
Annabelle Stivala, the Director of the Festivals stated, “Following the success of last year’s Uriah Heep’s rock concert, we’ve decided to launch this annual series which celebrates rock music in all its genres. We’re also proud of the fact that this initiative will be promoting local rock bands and supporting the Maltese rock scene in general.”
Lou Bondi’, Artistic Director of Rock’n Malta said, “For me, this is a dream come true. I’ve been lobbying for the organisation of such rock events for fifteen years and now it’s happening. I’m honoured to be the fist artistic director of Rock‘n Malta, and although we’re starting small, our ambitions are not.”
