Antoinette Camilleri is a working mother and housewife with three children, who are the most important people in her life. In her free time, she likes reading Maltese literature and watching horror movies.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I always aspired to be an actress. I took part in school plays and all other drama activities. When I was in my 20s, I started taking drama lessons for television and theatre. My first time on television was in Il-Madonna Taċ-Ċoqqa, and I also had a main part in Id-Dar tas-Soru. I had the opportunity to be in other TV series, both as a secondary and main character. Another passion that I have is the theatre. You have a live audience and you can see clearly their reactions and their emotions, which is a great satisfaction for the whole cast.”
For the past three years, Antoinette has had a break from television, but she was missing her work. She was then given the opportunity for a part in Intriċċi, and is now portraying a main in Santa Monika.

Can you describe your state of mind while acting?
When I’m acting I have to forget I’m Antoinette. I have to clear my mind of all the problems of everyday life in order to be in control of my character. It’s a nice thing, but also a big challenge to be someone who’s totally the opposite of who you are. In acting, sometimes you’ll have the opportunity to show some emotions that you rarely feel in reality. It’s a great challenge that you have to face when you have to interpret a difficult character. It’s important to study very well the character to see what the author really wants from you.
What do you think of the rising number of actors and actresses in Malta?
I think there’s great talent and potential. Nowadays there are many schools of drama where they can learn how to be confident, how to express their feelings more, and of course how to act. To be in drama, you have to feel the passion and not take it for granted. Today there are a lot of productions that give opportunities to the rising actors to show their talent on television or on stage. It’s important to take everything step by step in order to be a good actor.
What irritates you about other people?
Something that irritates me is that there are certain people who like to talk about other people’s lives and problems, instead of appreciating life itself. I think that they don’t realise how many problems they can cause. There are a lot of other things to invest your energy in instead of judging other people.
How would you describe your relationship with money?
I save up for things that might come in handy over time, but I love shopping and going out with friends and family. I believe that we only live once, and you have to enjoy life. Although money is important, there’s nothing better than love, respect and health in life.
What do you usually look for when you travel abroad?
I like to travel to different places, and it depends on where you’re going. I love traveling on my own or with family. I like historical places and museums, but I prefer shopping and adventure. I always take some photos to keep the memories.
