How does it feel to be Miss Universe Malta?
It feels absolutely amazing! Representing Malta in Miss Universe has always been a dream of mine, and I’m honoured to be the first Maltese to represent our tiny country after a fifteen year hiatus. I’m still overwhelmed by all the support I’ve received from my family, friends and the general public, and for this I am truly grateful. Most people tend to only see the glamorous side of such a beauty pageant and fail to see the responsibility, sacrifices and commitment such a title brings with it. Life has changed and has become more hectic, but I’m loving every minute of this new chapter of my life and embracing every opportunity and experience.
How did you get into modelling?
I started modelling at the age of fifteen when I was spotted by a local photographer, and a few weeks later, I landed my first magazine cover. Throughout the years, I’ve worked with leading professionals in the local industry, appearing in several magazines, fashion shows, commercials and campaigns.
What motivates you?
I’m motivated by positivity and passion, by my drive to succeed and by my determination in everything that I do.
Who are your role models?
I admire people from all walks of life, some of whom have leading or influential roles in society, others who do not. I particularly look up to people who are positive and have a passion for life, people who have a mind of their own and who work hard to achieve their goals and ambitions.
What has so far been your best experience in your modelling career?
There have been several experiences that have made my modelling career very rewarding, and that have led me to where I am today. Winning Miss World Malta at the age of seventeen changed the course of my life completely, and opened several doors in my career. Being awarded the Best Female Model Award at the Malta Fashion Awards back in 2009 has also been another great achievement. I’ve also been recently handpicked to present an episode for a Japanese TV travel programme, which was fun and very fulfilling. This year, I was also invited in Bulgaria to share my modelling experiences on two popular TV shows. All these beautiful experiences – as well as other personal ones – have prepared me for this thrilling journey towards Miss Universe. So far it’s been very exciting, and I’m really looking forward to the coming months.
What tips would you give to young women who’d like to enter the modelling industry?
It’s important to have a strong mind so as not to succumb to any pressures or negativity you may find. It can also be a very superficial world, so see through this, and then decide what is real and important and what isn’t. Above all, believe in yourselves, show confidence, have a good attitude and a friendly personality and just be yourselves!
