It’s hard to think of tiaras as an everyday accessory rather than a royal attribute. But apparently, there’s no need to be the Duchess of Cambridge or the winner of Miss World to wear the biggest accessory trend of Spring/Summer 2016.
This season, designers turned to royal traditions for some fashion inspiration. And so, it’s now time to master the art of wearing tiaras. Move over Kate, it’s our turn.
However, it’s got nothing to do with the Duchess of Cambridge’s neat and dainty style. This time, it’s Courtney Love who’s inspired the trend. A little more than twenty years ago, the queen of noise showed up on the world-famous Vanity Fair’s Oscar Party wearing a silky maxi dress, her signature messy hair, red lipstick and tiara. She looked like а princess from a post-apocalyptic fairytale. And apparently, Courtney has become a trendsetter, as for the first time ever, she made a tiara look chunky and punky rather than delicate.

The spring catwalks have seen a rise of tiaras. Models were walking down the runways wearing the dainty and classy tiaras combined with grundgy outfits like leather motorbike jackets, denim and shorts. Other beautifully created pieces were inspired by Greek mythology, not to mention tiaras that came with a contemporary futuristic touch.
The royal accessory is not only appropriate for black tie events, but can also be worn to cocktail parties or even a casual dinner with friends. This summer, designers want us to wear it with a childlike attitude and playfulness, as if it were a simple hoop or ribbon in your hair.
Combine the bling with a pair of jeans, an over-sized white shirt and flats. The key to the look is hair. The rule is: the bigger your tiara, the simpler the hairstyle. Your hair should be very Courtney Love – down and messy. You want people to see the obvious aesthetic contrast.
The most important thing is not to overdo the accessorising. A tiara can be combined with teeny-tiny cuffs or another minimal, sophisticated jewellery piece. But forget about statement accessories, especially necklaces. Not even a Disney princess would be able to pull off this fashion foul.
Despite everything you might think, wearing a tiara can be absolutely fun, adding a little personal touch to your look. So wear a tiara and feel like a princess for a day.
