When it comes to Malta, the visuals are never short of impressive. The historic gems and crystal clear waters not only render the country a perfect holiday destination, but have also been the backdrops of several significant cinematic works. It’s no wonder then why some of the biggest Hollywood production companies, including Warner Bros, Universal Studios and DreamWorks Pictures, choose the mesmerising panoramas of Malta as an excellent location for their movies. But there are actually two very prominent Hollywood celebrities whose names are associated with the Maltese islands like no other – Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. So let’s take a trip down memory lane to look at the movies the celebrity couple had filmed in Malta.
Brad Pitt had his first visit to Malta back in the day when he was still married to Jennifer Aniston; six kids were certainly not on the cards. The Hollywood A-list actor transformed into the Greek A-list warrior and hero Achilles for this movie, and Malta provided some stunning backgrounds for the truly thrilling spectacle. The ancient Greek world was recreated at Fort Risacoli, Mellieħa, Għajn Tuffieħa Bay and Comino Island.

World War Z (2013)
This time round, Angelina Jolie and their kids joined the daddy as he came to Malta in 2011 for the filming of World War Z, a zombie thriller. Malta doubled as Jerusalem and provided backgrounds for some of the most frightening and spectacular scenes in the entire film. It’s impossible to miss the winding honey-coloured streets of the micro-capital of Valletta. Other shooting places included Fort St. Elmo and Malta International Airport. The famous couple also enjoyed a Maltese dinner in Valletta.

By the Sea, 2015
Last year, the rocky island of Gozo not only created an illusion of the South of France for By the Sea, which was directed by Mrs Jolie-Pitt, but the Maltese tiny paradise had actually become a honeymoon destination for the newlywed couple. Brad and Angelina spent three months shooting on the sparkling shores of the picturesque Mġarr ix-Xini Bay.
And now, according to several news sources, Angelina Jolie may be returning to Malta to film a new version of Murder on the Orient Express. Get the pastizzi ready; Angie’s coming.
