Justin Sean Grech has loved drama and acting ever since he was a little boy. From a very young age, he’s always dreamed of becoming a professional actor and star on television and stage.
Growing up, he always loved watching TV series, both local and foreign, including Malta’s very own Enigma and Ipokriti, and shows such as Charmed, Friends and Supernatural. As a child, he’d always write his own little sketches, dreaming that one day he’d become a successful actor and screen writer.
At the age of 24, Justin wrote his first play, Enchantra – a delicious comedy about fairy tales and what happens after their happily ever after. Justin then took his writing to a whole new level when he wrote his first TV show, Maskra – a local TV series about a serial killer who plays mind games and challenges his victims beyond their limits, which was very well received by fans and critics alike.
He’s been called for extra or secondary parts on several occasions, some of which include Prima Facie, Sibna ż-Żejt and last year’s very successful Kristu fi Strada Stretta. Today, he stars as Pawlu in the highly successful Intriċċi.
What made you fall in love with drama?
It’s something that’s been within me since the day I was born. I’ve been in love with it for as long as I can remember. Watching action movies as a child, I’d always picture myself instead of the main actor; I’d be dreaming with my eyes wide open. It’s been a long ride so far, but it’s still not over yet. Drama’s something that I love with a passion and I live for it, so it’s something that I’ll keep working hard for and I’ll keep on pushing so that I can keep on growing within this industry.
Where do you hope to be in five years’ time?
I’d like to write my own TV show and star in it. I love putting my imagination on paper. Seeing it on TV is just an amazing feeling of satisfaction and completion. I also have scripts for theatre that are ready to go live on stage.
How important is social media to you?
It’s a good tool for communication and keeping in touch with the people in your life.
Is there anything on your bucket list which has yet to be accomplished?
Of course. Dreams and goals are important, as they keep pushing us to achieve more. The thing that I want the most is to settle down. Find a nice place to call home, start a family and live the simple life.
What fashion item can you not live without?
I adore sunglasses. I own quite a few pairs of them. There’s no end to my collection. I simply cannot resist them.
Do you have good skills in the kitchen?
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m good at overcooking things. I’m willing to learn though, and I recently made a shepherd’s pie which turned out quite all right.
