For those of you who have a narrow waist and a full bust which is about the same size as your hips, you’re lucky enough to don the hourglass figure. It’s no secret that this feminine silhouette has always been every woman’s dream, but it doesn’t mean that those who have this much-desired body type can wear any swimwear shape. It’s important to avoid bandeaus, as they won’t offer the support you’ll need. Look for underwired and non-padded bikini tops to embrace your silhouette and join the ranks of well-proportioned celebrities such as Scarlett Johansson, Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot and Halle Berry. Choose from the classic and retro sets, or one-piece bathing suits with underwire and cut-outs that will accentuate your waist.



If you have a curvy figure and your hips are wider than your shoulders and bust line, you are triangle- or pear-shaped. This particular type requires to accent the top part of your body to balance out the bottom part. The bikini top styles that suit you are bandeaus and bralettes. You can mix and match by choosing sets with colourful tops with summery decorations or floral prints combined with one-coloured bottoms. You should say ‘no’ to tie-side detailing or horizontal stripes on your bikini bottoms. Famous celebrities with pear-shaped silhouettes include Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.



You fall under the rectangle body type if your shoulders and hips are of a similar width and no defined waist. This body silhouette is very popular amongst supermodels such as Behati Prinsloo, Gisele Bundchen, Karlie Kloss, and not to mention some of the A-list celebrities such as Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow. Choose from the bikinis that come detailed with multi-coloured elements with fringes or flounces. Push-ups or slightly padded cups will create an illusion of a slimmer waist. If you want to make a statement on the beach by wearing a one-piece, you should choose from swimsuits with cut-out details to the sides or an asymmetrical cut-out in the front.



If your shoulders or bust are bigger than your hips, you are an inverted triangle. Unlike the pear-shaped silhouette, an inverted triangle requires an accent on the bottom part. A multi-coloured pattern bikini top will work against you, so choose the one-coloured top with a V-front neckline or halter neck straps. Accent your hips by choosing bright bottoms with colourful prints. Taking on retro shapes and choosing the high-waisted bikini bottoms is always a good idea for this body type.
