Running from the 14th till the 21st May, the Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week will be collaborating with the Valletta 2018 Foundation, where emerging fashion designers will be given the opportunity to showcase their work to the public in Valletta.

Addressing the media at City Lounge in Valletta this morning, Valletta 2018 Foundation Chairman Jason Micallef said, “Valletta 2018 is proud to have the Mercedes-Benz Malta Fashion Week included in its European Capital of Culture Programme in the run up to 2018. Fashion is a major contributor to the world’s visual culture, and this event provides a platform for local talent to showcase their artistry.”

In light of this, he highlighted that the Valletta Design Cluster will be opening its doors for designers and artists in the lower part of Valletta.

Malta Fashion Week has been developing over the past years, bringing together economic and artistic aspects while placing Malta’s fashion industry on the international map. This proves that such projects are sustainable and will have a lasting legacy up to 2018 and beyond.

Malta Fashion Week Executive Producer, Adrian J. Mizzi said, “The main objective of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta and Chamilia Fashion Awards has always been to create an international platform for Maltese artistic talent to reach a more global audience. This has been made possible through the kind support of many volunteers, corporate sponsors and government entities like Valletta 2018 and Heritage Malta. What is needed now is more determined investments to help the local industry take things to an even more professional level.”

Valletta will be hosting the New Designers Fashion Show on the 14th May in Republic Street at 11am, as well as a free photography exhibition which opens the same day at St George’s Square at 8.30pm. All other activities will be held across the harbour within Fort St. Angelo.
