Malta International Airport has recently been ranked second in the ‘Best Airport by Region’ category (Malta Independent, 29th Feb 2016).
Cheers, sweetie! What better way to celebrate this award than by planning a hasty escape and a spring holiday – the perfect winter antidote. Of course, if the airport’s looking fabulous, then so should you, so we’ll be sharing some airport style secrets from those who always get it right.
Celebrities spend half of their lives jetting across the globe, so they know exactly how to combine style and much-needed comfort. We’ve all had that sparkly fantasy where we saunter through the airport slide doors with streaming hair, wearing a pair of classy high-heeled shoes…
Forget about it. That doesn’t happen in real life, and those actresses are actually strolling through with empty suitcases and they won’t be really flying anywhere. Very few can handle the heel through airport security and duty-free. You can only really pull it off if you’re either Kim Kardashian or Victoria Beckham, and let’s face it, the chances of spotting her wearing sneaks are pretty much the same as seeing her smiling.

With regards to footwear, flats will make the dash across the terminal much more feasible. Dita Von Teese sets a very chic example with well-cushioned ballet flats and a bottle-green trench coat. Team your flats with the right outfit – you never know, you might get air mileage for it!
Keeping your travel wardrobe casual is the way to go about it. Steal pretty yet practical looks from Miranda Kerr, whose classic choices are both eye-catching and comfortable. She often opts for light-weight blazers combined with jeans or leggings, and of course, the constant pièce de résistance are the shades. From apt aviators to subtle cat eyes, they are the essential accessory that will mask travel tiredness. Jessica Alba, Charlize Theron and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are also fine examples to seek inspiration from.

Any airport-worthy style surely includes a capacious bag. A tote is essential in order to store everything you’d possibly need on board, and the more spacious it is, the better it will be to store your make up must-haves. However, we beg of you to ensure that all liquids that you carry do not exceed 100ml. Don’t let your favourite lotion be ruthlessly thrown out.
If you want to get through security in the shortest time possible, try not to go over the top with bold jewellery and belts. There’s nothing more annoying than taking all that off at airport checkpoints. The sooner you’re out of there, the sooner you can get to the shops at duty-free. There’s nothing stopping you from wearing layers, though. No, it’s not going to save you time, but it is worth doing, since it does get chilly on board, and you must keep warm.
