Tell us about your journey in becoming a singer.
Ever since I was young, my sister and I had always imagined ourselves as performers, and we used to look for any opportunity to organise shows for our family and friends. We absolutely loved singing, so when we were asked by a choir director if we were interested in joining the local group, we accepted immediately. Mum realised that we were passionate about singing, so she took it a step further and took us to private singing tuition, after which we started taking part in several singers’ festivals where we won many awards and ‘best singers’ titles. This was the beginning of a long career in the music industry, first as a duo with my sister as Starbrights and now as a solo artist.
Can you describe your state of mind when singing?
My current style of music is classic-celtic. I always become emotionally connected with the song that I am singing and my aim is to transmit this emotion to my audience.
Do you usually become stressed when a lot is going on around you?
Many people describe me as calm and patient by nature, although I do have moments when I panic, especially when I have a lot on my plate! Normally, I turn to those people who are closest to me, like my mother, my boyfriend or some close friends or colleagues who support me when I need some sound advice and encouragement.
In your opinion, what is the problem with the world today?
I believe that the biggest problem is egocentricity. Many people are too caught up with their busy schedule and sometimes neglect noticing what’s going on around them. It’s so easy to fall into this trap, so I believe that we should keep on reminding ourselves about the importance of valuing each day and each person in our lives. It’s the simple things in life that matter. That’s become my motto!
What’s the fashion item you couldn’t live without?
I’m quite a happy-go-lucky person when it comes to fashion. I can spend months not buying a thing or spend a fortune on just one shopping spree! I normally buy things in the spur of the moment and don’t attach myself to any particular fashion item.
How would you describe your relationship with money?
I think I would call it a healthy one! I save and spend wisely. I work hard and I’m happy to be able to earn money through my teaching profession and my singing commitments, and I’m always up to some new business venture. I guess I got that workaholic gene from my mum’s side of the family! Having said that, I also dedicate time to wind down and look after myself by going to the gym and by pampering myself at the beautician now and again. I also put money aside for other commitments like house expenses, music projects and a few trips abroad, especially to visit my sister Stephanie and her family in London and my dad in Wales.
