Martin Degabriele started organising modelling events 18 years ago under the name of Models-1, were he used to host modelling contests both for kids and adults.
He used his photographic hobby to organise photo sessions for the contestants. His wife Catherine, who helps him in organising events, suggested that he should start organising festivals for singers and from then on, they’ve never looked back. They’ve now changed their name to Stardust Promotions. Nowadays, Martin collaborates a lot with talented singers, both locally and abroad.
How did you first discover music in your life?
Ever since I was a child, I used to listen to music charts on the radio and also buy New Musical Express. Although I am not a vocal coach, I have a collection of music books on voice techniques and other musical subjects.
What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?
I always tell young performers that they have nothing to lose – to go up on stage and do their best. I also encourage the audience to give an applause to the performer before he or she starts to sing and also during the song.
Describe your musical education.
People should choose qualified tutors who lead them to qualifications.
How do you feel about singing competitions?
Singing competitions offer singers exposure, but I also must emphasise that singing is to be ultimately enjoyed.
How would you describe your relationship with money?
Money for me is not everything. I only do things that I enjoy doing.
What challenges have you had to face in your career so far?
I’ve had to face constant competition from other event organisers, but I always strive to bring innovation to my events and to be one step ahead of others.
