26-year old actress Stephanie Agius Bonaci has been married to her childhood sweetheart, Kevin Agius, for the past two and the half years. Even though they don’t have any children yet, their home is filled with different noises. They have two dogs, Buddy and Holly, one cat, Floyd, four birds and their latest addition comes in the form of a little guinea pig. Stephanie studied BTEC Certificate in Business at MCAST and has worked in the family business as a sales manager for the past six years.
Her first appearance on television was alongside her father, Hermann Bonaci, on the sitcom Simpatiċi at the age of 10. From then on, she’s never looked back. She started attending drama courses which also led her to other television opportunities and even stage productions. Apart from Simpatiċi, she’s also taken part in Imħabba mill-Ġdid, Għeruq and Missjoni. She is currently interpreting the part of Maxi Caruana in the new soap opera by Hermann Bonaci Productions, Intriċċi, which is being aired on Net TV every Wednesday at 8:30pm, with repeats on Sundays at 1pm.
How did you first discover drama and how do you nurture your acting skills?
I was practically born into the field, as my father has always been involved in various theatre productions. I would attend the theatre from a very tender age to watch my father act. The first time I had appeared on stage was when I was baby alongside Vittorin Galea.
I try to improve my skills with the help of my father of course, who has vast experience in the field and who is also my backbone. I also improve my skills from the knowledge I get from various known actors such as Joe Gatt, Simon Curmi, Frida Cauchi, Ray Abdilla, Rachel Micallef and all the others I work with. It’s always nice to learn something new after all!
How would you describe the local drama scene?
There are a lot of creative people about. However, there is not a lot of support for them. To produce a television series, you need a good budget. There aren’t a lot of entities which are ready to help you out. Obviously, there are still some great productions, but imagine what we could do with proper support.
If you could perform with anyone, who would it be?
From the local scene, I would love to act with Vince Micallef Pule’ whom I greatly admire. From the international scene, I wouldn’t mind acting alongside Stephen Amell from Arrow.
What makes you feel happy?
My husband, my family, my true friends and my lovely pets.
Have you ever had to make any big changes to your lifestyle?
The biggest change in my life was getting married, which was of course a very happy change, and with it came dirty dishes and a messy house!
What’s the most romantic thing a guy has ever done for you?
I have been with my husband for 10 years now. I actually treasure every romantic thing he’s ever done, and sometimes still does. He used to be very romantic with some very nice notes, cards, gifts and romantic meals and also flowers at work! Nowadays, these things don’t happen too often. I actually miss them. Maybe I’ll get some flowers when he reads this.
