Occupation: Actor, director, producer

Though Marc Cabourdin’s work has progressed from actor to director and from consultant to producer, he has been a constant presence in our local theatre scene for the past 18 years. True to that, Marc will once again be gracing the stage of the Salesians Theatre over the upcoming weeks in the Comedy Knights’ Three Times Funnier powered by XFM.

What do you consider to be the main highlights of your career?

I still have to hit the heights I’d like to achieve, though I see every piece of work as a landmark towards the development of my person and career. No one piece of work can be dismissed or celebrated, as the body of it all – my journey – has contributed to my narrative thus far.

You joined the ranks of fatherhood when your daughter arrived. How has it changed you as a person?

I don’t think that I’ve changed much. I’m pretty much the same. Though, I have become more impatient… I think!

What are the three words that describe you best?

Front-footed, determined, and ambitious. It’s funny how these words have become very true to me ever since Emma was born. Fatherhood kind of spurned me on.

What have you been up to since last year’s Comedy Knights?

It’s been quite a busy year! I’ve produced a classical concert, curated an outreach programme, produced and art-directed a popular pilot festival platform, co-directed and devised a performance piece for the Arts Festival, acted in the Michael Bay film, directed and produced a play… All of this while creating and consulting on new work, both nationally and internationally. Let’s just say it’s been busy!

What makes Comedy Knights unique?

I think its uniqueness lies in its simplicity. Satirical revues have existed since time immemorial, though we just let it be and allow our audience to be entertained without asking too much of them. But, most of all, we try to be honest.

Who’s your favourite Comedy Knight? And why?

Pinch your noses as this answer will smell of cheese: All of them! We all bring a very specific skill set to the job at hand. We’re cogs in a machine and if one fails to work, the engine will stop running.

Has this been a good year for creating new material for the Comedy Knights?

We do commentary and satire, so it’s safe to say that we’re knee-deep in the soup that are local issues!

You also have a reputation for being a bit of a foodie. What can you tell us about this?

Well, it’s something I love. I love the good things life has to offer, and food and drink definitely fit the bill. I was blessed with a childhood visiting family in France where everyday was a feast of Bourgogne, Chablis and champagne!

Do you have any other projects coming up?

But of course! I can’t tell you about them yet, though.
