The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall have recently stayed at The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux during their state visit to Malta from the 26th till the 28th November.

The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux, Malta’s only 5-star boutique heritage hotel, was honoured to welcome Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, as guests at the hotel. The Prince and Duchess were in Malta as part of an official state visit, accompanying Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Prince and Duchess arrived at The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux on the afternoon of 26th November, accompanied by their entourage. They were greeted by hotel staff and management upon arrival. All seventeen suites were at the disposal of the royal entourage during their 2-night visit to the exquisite 17th century Palazzo set within the medieval walled city of Mdina, which served as the island’s capital from antiquity until 1530.

The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux was selected as the base for the Royal couple because of its truly unique location and historic significance, its exemplary yet personal service, and its reputation for utmost discretion. As a family owned hotel, The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux offers an intimate ambience coupled with world class cuisine.

The Prince of Wales visited Malta during his early childhood when The Queen, who was then Princess Elizabeth, and The Duke of Edinburgh lived here from 1949 to 1951. They took up residence in Malta when The Duke was a naval officer in the Mediterranean fleet. The Prince re-visited the island several times, however this has been his first visit since the 1960s.

On their last day on the Mediterranean island, the Royal couple left The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux on foot to take a stroll round the narrow streets of Mdina before returning to the UK.
