Doriana Portelli has been on our screens since 2008. Before that, it had always been theatre from a very young age, but her performances mainly consisted of dance, rather than acting.

In 2008, she auditioned for L-Evanġelisti and was chosen to interpret one of the leading roles – Cassandra. From then on, Doriana has never looked back. In 2011, she was chosen to interpret Jade in the second season of Emilja, and from 2012 to 2014, she also played Zafira and Anastasia in Zafira. From 2014 till 2015, she landed the role of Karen in Rifless, and she is now Angela in Strada Stretta.

How would you describe the local drama scene in your own words?

It is a beautiful world, and a crazy one too! It’s a world in which you would really fit in if acting is a true passion of yours. If not, you probably won’t survive. However, if it’s what makes you complete, then nothing can really stop you.

Can you describe your state of mind when acting?

Meryl Streep had said something which best describes my state of mind: “Acting is not about being someone different. It’s finding the similarity in what is apparently different, then finding myself in there.”

Do you think that something’s better just because it’s more expensive?

Absolutely not. The measure of quality is not directly proportional to cost. In many instances, the components utilised to create or manufacture a product may be of elevated quality. However, their use and integration may not necessarily be as such. At the end of the day, it’s the end user’s perception of quality that finally gives the vote to the product.

What are you most looking forward to this winter?

Strada Stretta, for sure, and I’ve also started tango and fencing.

What’s the most money you’ve spent in one go?

I would rather not remember the figure again as it scares me to death, but it would have been on a holiday. I love travelling!

What percentage of your life do you spend shopping?

It’s something I enjoy doing to relax and take my mind off work or other issues that may be troubling me. However, acting doesn’t pay here in Malta, so I must keep it in check!
