The Malta International Organ Festival will return this year at a number of beautiful venues from the 19th November till the 7th December.

A selection of world-renowned musicians will grace several Maltese churches and cathedrals during this now established festival with their renditions of some of the greatest organ pieces composed throughout time. Despite the fact that cultural heritage is very often and very narrowly associated with solely museums and archaeological sites, Malta possesses a much more extensive patrimony of historical assets which includes the canonical belonging of music within our beloved places of worship.

It was with the arrival of the Knights of St John and the lifting of the Great Siege of 1565 that the building of modern Malta had commenced. This year, we celebrate the 450th anniversary of this historic event, when the archipelago’s landscape had been transformed beyond the little changes made since prehistoric times. Fortifications, wonderful palaces and a network of small cities, towns and villages emerged, and at the heart of each was a church.

These small communities today form the historic centre of our archipelago’s urban landscape, and many are also home to the venues for the Malta International Organ Festival.

The arts have always played a major role in Maltese culture, and it is the festival’s aim that the high calibre programme that has been put together should serve as an endorsement to the event’s  international status, which is now becoming a regular slot in the Maltese cultural calendar.

The opening concert will feature Vatican Organist Gianluca Libertucci, together with the Metropolitan Opera Soprano Olga Makarina, Gianpiero Cristaldi on trumpet and Maltese baritone Joseph Lia.

When buying a block ticket of the 3 concerts at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, one can get a complimentary ticket for the concert at Robert Sammut Hall.

Tickets can be purchased from the Ticketline website or from the Embassy Cinemas Box Office in Valletta.
