Comedy specialists Mostly Harmless Productions are bringing a brand new, never-seen-before play to the local stage this October.
The Trophy Room is a hilarious tale of football, sex, blackmail and relationships set against the backdrop of the richest league in the world.
The story revolves around Ben Clark, a Premiership footballer who has it all – great job, stunning wife, beautiful home and more money than most people could earn in a dozen lifetimes.
But while things look brilliant on the surface, all is not quite as peachy as it seems. Ben’s career is winding down, his relationship with his wife is a sham and he is about to find out he’s being blackmailed on the eve of signing his last major contract.
What unfolds over the 90 minutes of the show is a hilarious tale full of twists, one-liners and snappy dialogue that will make sure you never look at a professional footballer the same way again.
Writer and director James Calvert explains: “We all like to believe that the life of a footballer is a perfect one. Getting paid incredible amounts of money for doing very little, and for most of them, it probably is. But what if it isn’t quite as perfect behind the scenes?”
The Trophy Room boasts a brilliant cast including John Montanaro as Ben, Julia Calvert as his wife Alice, Chiara Hyzler as the football agent and Steve Casaletto as Ben’s old school friend Harry.
The Trophy Room is being staged at the Blue Box Theatre in Msida from the 9th till the 18th October. All shows start at 8pm and run for approximately two hours including intermission.
Due to the adult content, this show is classified 18.
Tickets are priced at €10 for opening night and €18 for all other shows. These can be purchased from the Blue Box website.
