Lately, sequels seem to have become the order of the day, with many movies being stretched and re-booted to involve two, three, or even more serialised continuations, not to mention additional suffixes and appellations. This summer, sequels will not be absent. They seem to be, in fact, permeating the season.
Here are a few of the most popular sequels which will be showing in our cinemas soon.
Insiduous: Chapter 3 (Release Date: June 2015)
For those who, like me, are horror buffs, this movie will come as a nice addition to their repertoire. Although it is actually a prequel of the first two, it still follows the experiences of paranormal investigator and sensitive Elise Reiner, starring Lin Shaye as in the first two movies. This ensures that the movie will, in certain aspects, still tie in and blend with the plot-lines presented in the others. Set before the haunting of the Lambert family, Elise Rainer sets out to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who is being terrorised by a supernatural being. Not a movie to be missed!
Terminator Genisys (Release Date: July 2015)
With Arnold Schwarzenegger once again taking on his iconic role as the invincible Terminator in the fifth instalment of the movie-series of the same name, we come face to face with not only a well-known classic with an enormous cult following, but also with new renditions of more original concepts. Backwards and forwards in time, we are once again presented with the futuristic technology that made this movie so famous and innovative for its time. We look forward to enjoying more incredible and realistic effects. This is the first of a new Terminator trilogy set to be continued in 2017 and 2018. Although it has not yet been confirmed whether or not Schwarzenegger will also have a role in these movies, we cannot but look forward to seeing the original Terminator back on screen. We can’t help wondering whether the now 67-year old actor will actually manage to reproduce feats he had performed when he was a fully-fit 37-year old.
Jurassic World (Release Date: July 2015)
Another cult movie-series, Jurassic World is the fourth instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise which dates back to 1993. The story is set 22 years after the events of the original movie, on an island where the Jurassic theme-park has become an actual reality. Problems start when a new hybrid dinosaur is created in a bid to boost the park’s popularity. With Steven Spielberg acting as executive producer, this will surely be a masterpiece jam-packed with action, science fiction technology and suspense… and I’m sure there will be a special effect or two thrown in as well.
Ted 2 (Release Date: June 2015)
Starring the funnily irreverent sentient talking teddy bear voiced by Seth MacFarlane, this comedy continues the adventures and happenings in the life of an unusual and deliciously ironic hero. Together with his best human buddy, John (played by Mark Wahlberg), Ted must battle the system in his bid to fatherhood after he marries his girlfriend. Asking your best friend to be a sperm-donor is definitely not easy when you are a talking bear. This is where the struggle to legalise Ted begins and where issues such as the rights of minority groups, the difficulties in defining a human being and human fertilisation are tackled in a light, amusing and entertaining manner. This is all aimed at encouraging people to think about these issues by using slapstick humour and droll wit.
Will you be watching any of these movies this summer?
