Raquel Galdes’s début took place in 2013, during a local festival with the song ‘Mhux Pupa Biss.’ This was composed by Minik and penned by Rita Pace. She placed in eighth position in that festival. Later that year, she managed to make it with the twenty semi-finalists of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘Invisible’ which is composed by Philip Vella and penned by Gerard James Borg.

In 2014, after her performance in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, she went to Edinburgh to give X-factor a try. She received very good feedback and in fact, Raquel managed to make it till the third phase – which is the one before the live shows. She will totally give it a try again, next year.

Raquel then decided to search for record labels and studios in London and she was called for an audition with Downtown Artists with another 400 artists. Raquel is one of the final five they have chosen to work with.

The past months have proven to be busy ones for Raquel. She is currently working on new songs, which will be launched shortly. She has also participated in various gigs, including the Beer Festival. Such opportunities have enabled Raquel to improve her live performances considerably. She collaborated with various Maltese artists, such as Re-Ne & Err with whom she launched a music video for the song ‘Andromeda.’

What does music mean to you and how did you first discover music?

Music is my first priority in everything. I spend days thinking what’s next and what I can do better. It’s my inspiration in everything. I showed my passion for music from a very tender age and in 2002, I joined a choir.

Are there any new projects you’re working on?

Besides my involvement  with various local DJs and working on a new set of acoustic songs, I have also recently set up my own band which will be soon working on its own songs.

What makes you really angry?

When I work really hard on something related to the music scene and someone copies me and doesn’t admit to it!

What are your comments about our local music scene?

It’s very difficult since most of the time the same people take the applause. But I think, over time it is improving and singers who are new to the local scene are finally getting some space! Of course, it requires a lot of hard work!

What would you never, ever buy and why not?

A spider as a pet. I’m really afraid of them!!

What do you think is your best asset and why?

I have a lot of determination. Whatever I set my mind to, I’ll find a way and do it – whatever it takes!
