The term ‘selfie’, has been added to the Oxford Dictionary and it actually won the 2013 Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year.
While some might see this trend as the representation of today’s narcissism, it can actually be traced back to 1839, when the first known self-photographs were taken by Robert Cornelius.
There is no set ways to take a selfie, you just point your phone camera at yourself, snap a photo and upload it to your favourite social platform. However, technology mogul Sony, have decided to take it a step further and create a camera which is specifically for taking selfies. Moreover, whilst they were at it, they decided to design it in the shape of a perfume bottle.
The new selfie technology will be in the form of an add-on which can be connected to any compatible Sony phone through the audio jack and has a swivel top (or perfume cap) that can switch from selfie-mode to normal.
Nowadays, everyone from the President of the USA to any Tom, Dick or Harry are taking selfies. While some use this trend ad nauseum, some good things have come about from them. If you are that shy person who always hides at the back of every group photo, then this trend might be just what you need to become more comfortable with taking pictures of yourself and to give your self-esteem a boost.
It is also the perfect way to control your image online and to choose how you look.
