Always Tired?


Life feels hard when we feel tired day after day. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Here are some useful tips to get over your tiredness:

Get at least seven hours sleep each night, an obvious one but important none the less. Burning the candle at both ends is fine for a couple of nights, but pushing the limits will not keep you energised.

Drink water and I mean water, not tea, coffee, beer or wine (unless in moderation). When we are dehydrated, we feel tired and lethargic. Often, the mind tells us we are hungry. Each time you feel hungry, drink a glass of water. It is more likely that we need water, more than food. We don’t wash our sinks with coffee, we use water. Flush toxins from your body often. Of course, avoid all those sweet, unnatural drinks.

Start the day with a healthy breakfast. Eat natural things, not sugar-filled (or worse still sugar free things with aspartame and other  sweeteners). Food is our energy source. We don’t put junk fuel into the car and expect it to work. So how can our bodies function well if we don’t give them good quality fuel?

What we eat is so vital, and sadly Malta, United Kingdom and United States have the worst obesity levels in the world. Include iron-rich food in your diet, such as beans, lentils, chickpeas, tofu, eggs (especially the yolk), dark green leafy vegetables, dried fruit, cereals and grains, nuts and peanut butter.

Eat alkaline foods too. It’s worth knowing what they are, so look up the term and learn more about these foods, make sure that you are reading from reliable sources. Some examples are broccoli, water melon and honey.

“I should exercise, do yoga etc. but I am tired so I will give it a miss.” How often do we make this mistake? A walk, some yoga, a swim, or a workout gets the body functioning and guess what? After a few sessions, you will feel less tired and you will be fitter.

Keep life simple. Learn to say NO and not say YES to every request from everyone. Take on only what you can handle. More weighs you down and exhaustion is the result.

Keep a tidy desk, or workshop. It is so frustrating and tiring wasting energy just looking for the tools or papers you need, instead of using that energy to get the job done.

Take a real break from work, a full day off each week and a proper holiday. The body needs to relax. If you are a perfectionist – easy does it!!

Turn off the FEAR switch. Don’t worry what may or may not happen in the future. What is the worst that can happen today?

Wake up early and start the day with meditation, yoga or sex. It sets you up for the day ahead. Take a real break at lunchtime. Get out of the office.

When possible have a siesta. Since we live in a hot climate, it is especially good to avoid the heat of the day by relaxing, making love or sleeping for an hour. The Spanish certainly know how to live!!

Turn off the TV and computer at least an hour before you try to sleep. Play relaxing music and be intimate with someone, if possible. That can just be hugging, or a loving touch. It does not have to be sex.
