JOANNE BUSUTTIL is a simple, yet busy 29 year old woman with her own full-time job, part-time acting plus the most beautiful role in the world – that of being a mother of two kids – 4 year old Nicholai and 9 year old Hayley. She was brought up in a family where the need to be discovered was always there and hence to practise one’s talents was always a must!
“Therefore I used to attend several extracurricular activities including singing, volleyball, drama and ballet and jazz. My first theatrical coach was my drama teacher, Ms Rita Vassallo at St. Monica School in Birkirkara. Later, at the age of 10, I started acting with the drama group at Fleur-de-Lys Parish Centre. In the meantime, I regularly attended drama courses which gave me the opportunity to develop my passion, which is drama, into more than just a hobby.
My first experience on a local TV programme was in Sfida – this was back in 2003. Four years later, at the age of 22, my sister decided to fill up an application for me for Gizelle. The audition itself was an amazing, yet tough experience and I just couldn’t believe my ears when I got the call letting me know that I had been given the part of Katya, an undercover cop on an important mission.
This opportunity was the beginning of my appearance as a main actress in local T.V dramas, such as Emilja, D.R.E.A.M.S and now Katrina. Each character gave me the opportunity to be something that I’m not and that’s the beauty of drama,” explained Joanne Busuttil.
Are you a good cook? If yes, what is it that you do really well?
Mmmm, my mum does most of the cooking nowadays and I wouldn’t change her meals for anything! She’s perfect! However, when I used to do the cooking myself, beef or chicken stir fries were considered to be my best dishes.
What’s the most money you have spent in one go?
A shopping spree in London thanks to my beloved cousin, Rachel Borg!
What role does technology play in your life?
I am really not a big fan of technology! My 4 year old son knows how to make use of today’s gadgets more than I do. A simple mobile phone that gives me the opportunity to make a phone call and to send an sms is enough for me.
What was your biggest failure to date?
I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason, so I cannot recall any particular event which I regard as a failure. I just consider the less happy moments as situations that helped me grow into the person that I am, today.
How would you describe your relationship with money?
Money is important, but I never consider it as a priority in my life. I work hard to earn it and love spending it, mostly to keep my beautiful kids happy.
