History of Fashion – Giorgio Armani


After having briefly studied in the medical field, the young Giorgio Armani, decided to change career path after working as a window dresser in one of Italian’s largest department stores. Today he is one of the world’s most iconic clothing designer, best known in America for his men’s suits.

Armani formed his company in 1975, with his popularity skyrocketing in the 1980’s. His men’s suits were frequently used for the TV series Miami Vice, as well as for the 1980 film, American Gigolo and this contributed greatly to building his brand. Known for his clean, tailored lines, Armani’s empire has grown from strength to strength. By the 1990’s he had over 2,000 stores worldwide.

Armani has also been incredibly successful in other fields. He opened his first restaurant in 1989 and in 2010, he launched his first hotel in Dubai with one in Milan following soon after, in 2011.

Today, the Armani brand also extends to makeup, housewares and books, among other things. With more than three decades of success, Giorgio Armani has experienced a longevity as a designer that few have enjoyed and his elegant designs have retained their popularity even after so many years.
