The San Diego Comic-Con International

The San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC) is a multi-genre entertainment and comic convention which recently celebrated its 45th anniversary. This convention was founded in 1970 by a group of comic book lovers from San Diego and has evolved to offer a preview of professionals, exhibitors and select guests.

Comic-Con offers a selection of panels, seminars and workshops with comic book professionals for the most die-hard comic book enthusiasts. Fantasy fanatics flock to this event yearly from around the world very often wearing costumes and fashion accessories which represent their favourite characters. This is known as cosplay.

As with previous years, the 2014 SDCC featured a variety of amusing strangeness, both inside and outside the halls of the convention.

Benedict Cumberbatch dominated the scene during the promotion of the upcoming movie Penguins of Madagascar. While questions relating to Sherlock were prohibited, he overshadowed fellow Oscar-winning actor, John Malkovich at the film Q&A.

The cast for the TV show Community were also present to give some insights on what Season 6 will bring. This had been cancelled by NBC only to be brought back to life by its dedicated fan-base.

Mattel, in the meantime, launched a special edition Hot Wheels car that is inspired by the character, Darth Vader. The $40 toy is available in special light-sabre packaging and is only available for purchase at Comic-Con. The Mattel booth was accompanied by a life-sized replica.
