How to Reduce Facial Redness

Facial redness is a skin condition that may develop due to a number of factors. The most common condition is known as rosacea. It is most often the result of skin infection, inflammatory conditions, food allergies, eczema or reactions to some products that you have been using.

There are a number of ways in which you can control facial redness and although they may not permanently get rid of it, they will certainly help, in the long run, to soothe a red face.

The simplest thing you can do is to use cold water to wash your face instead of hot water. Although hot water may be fine for the rest of your body, it is not the same on your face, which is much more sensitive to temperature.

Rosewater is a great anti-inflammatory that helps counteract irritated skin. It is also rich in antioxidants and helps in the regeneration of cells. Rosewater, which is easily available from most supermarkets or health shops at a relatively cheap price, can be utilised in a number of ways. One way is to use it as a toner before you apply your moisturiser and makeup. Pour a small amount on a cotton pad and dab it over your face. This will help soothe the skin and reduce redness.

Another ingredient to look out for in your products is Zinc. It is usually found in products that treat acne or to speed up wound healing. What it also does is treat sensitive skin and help reduce irritation.

And finally another thing to keep in mind is to use mild products. It is not recommendable to go for the strong, do-it-all products that promise to give you perfect skin. They would quite possibly be too strong for your sensitive skin. Try to go for products of a reputable brand that manage to calm your skin and that are specifically for sensitive, irritated skin.
