Davinia also placed second runner up at the 2013 Malta Eurovision, with the dramatic ballad Betrayed.
On 12th May 2014, Davinia released her new single Ouch! across all major radio stations in Malta.
On 24th May 2014, it will be available for download on the digital platforms iTunes, Deezer, Spotify, Amazon.com and more. The track is a collaboration between award-winning Maltese DJ and producer Carlo Gerada, singer/songwriter Matt ‘Muxu’ Mercieca, with mastering by Elton Zarb at Freetime Studios. The last two individuals were responsible for Davinia’s past releases, Sail Away, Betrayed and You Are My Home.
Ouch! is Davinia’s second release for 2014 and was preceded by Brand New Day, which was her entry for this year’s Malta Eurovision Contest. Following overwhelming public interest, this Motown-inspired tune was released across all local radio stations and also internationally. With lyrics symbolic to new beginnings, positive outlook and restored hope, Davinia dedicated Brand New Day’ to the LGBT community in support of the passing of the Civil Union Bill in Maltese Parliament. The passing of this bill was celebrated by a mini-concert held in Palace Square last month, and was headlined by Davinia, herself.
In stark contrast, Ouch! adds new colour to Davinia’s already colourful musical portfolio. Known mainly for jazz and soul-influenced ballads, this latest offering is a bold move away from Davinia’s past work. Although Ouch! talks about a failing relationship, it possesses playful elements, with a beat tailored to a fun and mischievous Mediterranean summer.
As a genre, Ouch! classifies as Electronic Dance Music (EDM) which at times, shifts towards Dance. It is expected to be played at Malta’s top festivals and clubs over the summer.
