Elise Pellegrin has participated in the Olympic Games in Sochi – becoming the first Winter Olympian to represent Malta. She finished 42th out of 90 in Slalom.
Back in 2011, she was Champion of the Vosges and finished third in the slalom at the World Championships ‘citadins’. Last year, Elise participated in the World Championships representing Malta. She started competing when she was 8 years old in the ‘US Ventron’ club when she won her first competition. She has lately participated in the Championships of France.
At the age of 15, Elise went to the French Alps to do more international competitions. But at the age of 18, she came back in the Vosges to finish her studies. At that time, her parents told her about Malta and her great-grandfather who was born in Malta. So they started the process and in 2010, Elise got the Maltese citizenship.
What’s your connection to Malta?
My great-grand-father was born in Malta, in Sannat (Gozo), and my father is Maltese. I’ve been to Malta several times and I love this country. It’s a little country, but it’s very beautiful. Finally, I help an association for disabled persons, Id-Dar tal-Provindenza. This is very important to me and this means a lot.
What’s your opinion about tattoos? Do you own one or more?
I don’t have a problem with tattoos. There are some very nice ones. When they are discreet they are not at all vulgar. But, no, I don’t have tattoos.
What makes you angry?
I don’t know. I have a strong character. I think I could be angry when someone lies.
If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with the time?
I would say to all the closest people around me that I love them and I will continue to live my life to the fullest and enjoy every moment continuing to do what I love: skiing.
Were you ever bullied as a kid?
What’s a hobby you spend most money on?
Skiing is very expensive and I like spending when I go shopping!
