Until a few years ago, Miriam Christine’s main occupation was that of producer and presenter with a local TV station. “I really love working in television, and I missed my job when I became a Music Teacher. Eventually I settled in my new career and I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with children now. However, when I was approached to be part of this new TV programme ‘Poppins’ I was really happy. I am enjoying being in the studio again, and realized that TV is something I can’t really do without”, stated Miriam Christine in her introduction to this interview with RAMONA PORTELLI.
What’s the number one fashion item you couldn’t live without, and why?
That’s a tough one because I’ve got so many items I love that I’ve collected over the years. But I think the one thing I never leave the house without are my sunglasses. At the moment I’m loving my big Dior shades.
What was your biggest failure to date?
I don’t think there’s anything I’ve done in my life that I consider a failure. Yes, I have done mistakes like anyone else. But I am thankful for them too. I feel I have learned so much and become a better person. Mistakes and disappointments in life happen to help us become stronger and more confident. I wouldn’t change anything.
How do you compare the way you view singing and presenting? Do you have any preference between the two?
Presenting is a more relaxed affair for me. I really enjoy it and always do my research before a programme, so when the camera starts rolling, I feel confident and really sure of myself. I really enjoy singing too, and I think that so long as God lends me my voice, I will never stop using it. However, when I am performing on a big stage, I have to deal with the pressure and jitters. The adrenaline is very high and it’s quite a lot to handle. But I still love it. I really don’t have a preference when it comes to singing and presenting. In fact, I think I would love to be able to do both as a full-time job. We’ll see what the future holds.
So far, what’s the most money you have spent in one go?
My house in Mosta. I love spending time at home, cooking, reading, playing my piano or watching a good film. I think if I could, I would spend all my free time at home! Thank God I have my good friends who drag me out sometimes!
Do you prefer Summer or Winter?
Although I adore Christmas (my favourite day of the year), I must say that I prefer Summer. I am a true Brazilian at heart. I love the sun, sea and chilled drinks and barbecues with great friends. I feel so blessed to have ended up living in beautiful Malta. I love travelling, but I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
Do you have a grooming regime?
I don’t consider myself to be extremely fussy, but I do have good quality face creams and products, and I do take care of my nails, hair and skin. When I was younger, I used to take certain things for granted. Not anymore. Looking good is hard work, but I do it gladly. My number one rule is to love myself first, emotions, image and all. It’s only then that one is able to truly love the other people around. It took me a long time to realize this, but once I did, there was no looking back.
