Powerful Green Tea

Green tea has been used in Asia for over 4,000 years as a medicine. Now research confirmed that green tea fights cancer, lowers bad cholesterol and prevents heart attacks.

The secret of green tea lies in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant that inhibits the growth of cancer cells and kills them without harming healthy tissue. It is also effective in lowering bad cholesterol levels and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots, that are the leading cause of heart attack and stroke.

Why don’t other teas have so many benefits?

Green and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia Sinensis plant. Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized. Black tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being converted into other compounds that are not as effective in preventing and fighting various diseases.

Reasons why you should drink green tea:

Speeds up weight loss; researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned  more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.
Green tea can help prevent tooth decay. Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that cause dental plaque.
Japanese scientists discovered that there were fewer recurrences of breast cancer and the disease spread less quickly, in women who drank five cups or more of green tea a day.
