Moulin Rouge

Paris – the city of love! I have been to France countless times but realised that I’ve never really done the ‘tourist thing’. So when I booked a special trip there as a birthday treat for my mum we decided to make the effort to really see some attractions. We sailed along the River Seine on a boat tour learning about the  history of the city, we lit candles for loved ones lost in the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral, walked under The Arc de Triomphe and, of course, we made sure to see the Eiffel Tower lit up in all its glory at night.

One particularly special excursion though was going to see Moulin Rouge. As a Londoner I must admit I was sceptical that anything could really beat the magical West End and furthermore it appeared at first glance to be nothing more than a gratuitous show of boobs and bums for the boys – but I was very wrong. (Mostly because the girls definitely see their fair share of toned male backsides and six packs on display too).

This show is simply an incredible spectacle. Stunning costumes, wonderful choreography, excellent stage direction, great ‘props’, animal appearances and pleasing twists and surprises to keep you on your toes – (I don’t want to give too much away). So, in conclusion the price tag of a ticket to this show is fully justified and a great night out.

Apart from a rather terrifying bit involving clowns where I had to concentrate heavily on finishing my glass of champagne so as not to look at them (ghastly creations, clowns are so very, very wrong) I was utterly transfixed and would not hesitate to see it again when I am next in Paris. A must-see show!
