We’re told, over and over again, that we need to drink more water and we are all aware of this fact. Yet in reality few are taking this advice seriously.Widespread dehydration is causing various problems, from problems of the urinary tract to overeating or fatigue. Some problems are avoidable if only we were more aware of what our bodies need.
As I write this, I can easily guess that most of us are thirsty right now. When the body feels thirst it is already ‘too late’ – guess what? Your body needed water a while ago. Repeatedly, I get people telling me that they drink ‘a lot’ and it turns out that they are nowhere near providing their thirsty bodies with enough water even if they’re carrying a bottle around all day. Others declare that they do not like the taste of water.
If you’re suffering from this problem, try making infused water and without much effort you’ll soon be feeling much better. It’s amazing what a difference being properly hydrated makes to the way you feel, both emotionally and physically. These are some of my favourite infused waters, but do not be afraid to experiment with your own ideas too.
- Frozen limes and basil
- Clementines and chopped mint
- Lemon and cucumber
- Strawberries and basil
If it makes it easier (and let’s face it, you’re more likely to persist with this habit if it is) you may keep a freezer bag with chopped fruit handy. This not only makes it fast to prepare, but also cools down your water further. If you’re having a party or want some added zing, why not try adding some sparkling water or lemonade too. Always add a couple of ice cubes and serve with a straw – enjoy!
