Summer 2013 will see the comeback of Miss Malta. This beauty contest is celebrating the 50th anniversary in style.

George and Deggie Gatt Mangion had created the concept as part of the events organised by GM Productions and for almost half a century it was considered a national annual event. In fact girls from all over Malta and Gozo used represent their locality and hoped to eventually be crowned Miss Malta.

Unfortunately this couple passed away around 18 months ago and their daughter, Joanne Parascandolo, wished to keep her parents’ memory alive. So she started looking for organisers to take care of this concept and develop it. Studio Seven bit the bullet and after weeks of gearing up, the company together with ONE TV are ready to go.

This time it is all different. Normally, in such beauty contests, the participants are simply chosen for their looks. In this year’s event, the twelve finalists were chosen depending on their character and abilities other than beauty. The winner of this contest will be given the opportunity to represent Malta in another contest, the Miss Intercontinental in Turkey.

The twelve finalists for this year are: Jade Cini (Miss Valletta), Alexia Fenech (Miss Hamrun), Mandy Micallef (Miss Zurrieq), Sarah Zerafa (Miss Birkirkara), Nikki Zarb Cousin (Miss San Gwann), Jessica Vella (Miss Iklin), Jessica Borg (Miss Zebbug), Maria Victoria Muscat (Miss Lija), Natalya Galdes (Miss Sliema), Rebecca Nurton (Miss Kappara), Francesca Gauci (Miss San Giljan) and Paula Calleja (Miss Swieqi).

‘Miss Malta’ 2013 is going to be presented by Frederick Attard and the comedian Daniel Chircop. This programme will be aired live, every Monday from different locations around Malta, such as the the Open-air theatre in Valletta and Pretty Bay in Birzebbugia, amongst various others. The audience on site and the general public following the program on ONE TV can vote for their favourite contestant and also win various prizes. Miss Malta 2013 is also fully supporting the Action for Breast Cancer Foundation to give maximum exposure to breast cancer awareness.
