I’m referring to the cream you find in skin care lines and not the kind you find on top of a strawberry frappe’ – the cream that gives you a promise of better looking skin.
The sheer volume of joy you’ll see on my face as I walk into a cosmetics store is laughable,
What makes me forget all other priorities, money-wise, when I see shelf after shelf lined up with beautiful scented lotions or creams for the eyes, neck, face or whatever the desire?
It simply can’t be the actual cream? No, it’s the promise it comes along with.
I suffered greatly from eczema when I was a teenager, and I think the wish for clear perfect skin became something of an obsession – after many treatments and years I was eventually free from the irritation, constant cover ups and at one point even bullying and I was able to use make-up and creams like everyone else, because believe me, regular creams does nothing for skin with a condition and it seems you always want what you can’t have.
So maybe my obsession with skin care can be excused – it’s only a cream, I’m well aware, but to me one little jar also contains hope of feeling better and being able to look my best, which is exactly what they promise and what I wish for.
Luckily they don’t all keep their promises so the hunt for the perfect bottle of hope is still on! ;)
