Triple Bill: Duets in Motion

A programme intended to create a link between emerging Maltese practitioners and established international artists or companies is a Triple Bill of Duets. The performance has an exciting emphasis on male dance artists, from dancers to choreographers.

The triple bill of duets will be divided as follows:

1. Brenda Lee Grech (Malta/Glasgow) & Victor Zarallo (Spain/Glasgow) \Choreography: Annabelle Lopez Ochoa/James Cousins Maltese ballerina Brenda-Lee Grech and Victor Zarallo (both with Scottish Ballet) will perform ‘A Deux’ choreography Annabelle Lopez Ochoa music by Olafur Arnalds, and ‘Jealousy’ choreography by James Cousins music by Ben Frost. The two works will be linked by dance film featuring the dancers entitled ‘Origine’ choreography by Constant Vigier, film by Lewis Landini, music by Bach.

2. Mavin Khoo & Luke Divall (UK)Choreography: Three Maltese choreographers (under 30), Maria Cassar/Valentina Azzopardi/Dorian Mallia A duet created on Mavin Khoo and British dancer Luke Divall. The work is a biographical narrative entitled ‘Tell me who I am’ and will be collaboratively choreographed by 3 emerging Maltese choreographers (under the age of 30).

3. Gregory Maqoma (South Africa) & Roberto Olivan (Spain) Choreography: Gregory Maqoma/Roberto Olivan An excerpt from a new duet collaboration by two international dance makers. The project is co-produced by Grec Festival and Mercat de les Flors (Barcelone) and Dance Umbrella (South Africa) and will be performed fresh out of its premiere in early July 2014.

This will be the following act of the concert held in de Valletta Square featuring Daniel Cauchi from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra who will be conducting the percussion group of the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

This event is part of the 2014 Malta Arts Festival and will be held in Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Republic Street, Valletta between July 31 and August 1.
