As part of a series of events entitled A Tribute to Sammy Murgo, Heritage Records are organising a concert by Sammy Murgo’s Quartet on the 13th May at 8pm at Studio B within Spazju Kreattiv.

Since the 1950s, Sammy Murgo has been in the local music scene performing with, at least, three generations of musicians. Keeping a low profile and performing with enthusiasm and dedication, he never sought any particular fame for himself. Sammy has been an inspiration to a number of younger jazz musicians, helping them establish themselves in the local scene.

This tribute aims to recognise Sammy’s achievements by giving him due recognition and therefore crediting him as a jazz pioneer, as well as an accomplished entertainer.

The Sammy Murgo Quartet consists of Sammy Murgo on alto sax, Dominic Galea on the piano, Mario Aquilina Il-Cocker on double bass and Noel Grech on drums. They will also be joined by Alex Manche’, Sammy Galea, Charles ‘City’ Gatt, Alex Grech, Doreen Galea, Harry Eddleston, Marvin Gaerty and Adrian Brincat ir-Russu.

Throughout the performance short interviews will be conducted by Joe Julian Farrugia, and a CD album will be officially launched during the evening.
