PABLO PICASSO AT THE GRANDMASTER’S PALACE
MAPFRE Middlesea is proud to announce an exhibition of works by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, which will be held at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta in 2018.
Four paintings and some 100 prints from Picasso’s Vollard Suite will be locally on display during Valletta’s year as the European Capital of Culture.
As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the twentieth century, Picasso’s masterpieces have fetched tens of millions at auction. The Vollard Suite, which was named after the art dealer who commissioned them, is a set of 100 etchings in the neoclassical style that had been produced by Picasso throughout the 1930s.
Fundación Mapfre, a non-profit institution by global insurance company MAPFRE, will be organising and bringing the major exhibition to Malta, in collaboration with the office of the President of Malta.
This will be the first time that Picasso’s works will be landing on Maltese shores.
