Kathak, Malta Arts Festival 2014
Kathak is a classical dance form indigenous to northern India. It developed under the influence of both Hindu and Muslim cultures. Characterized by intricate footwork and precise rhythmic patterns, it has its origins as an oral tradition, now evolving into both an expressional and virtuoso dance form of significance in 21st century international dance.
Isabelle Anna is a French-born dancer who is committed to the traditions of the hereditary lineage that she studied from. Based in New Delhi, India, she represents a fascinating aspect of cultural diaspora. The lecture demonstration will focus on elements of rhythm and story-telling.
